About us

As part of the multinational ICI, who successfully pioneered the production of polyaryletherketone polymers, the ZYEX group was closely associated with the first PEEK spinning trials in the early 80s.

Initially melt spun monofilaments were developed suitable for the weaving of open mesh conveyor belts and used to process chemical or non-woven products in the most aggressive of industrial environments.

This distinctive trade mark for PEEK fibre products was established in the late 1980's. This was at the time mainly in support of the patenting and commercial introduction of fine PEEK monofils and multifils into the premium tennis string market as a direct replacement for nylon and natural gut products.

Becoming independent in 1994 as ZYEX Ltd., production and R & D facilities were relocated to Stonehouse - on the edge of the scenic Cotswolds area between Gloucester and Bristol in the south west of England.

Here international quality standards have been established as an integral and ongoing aspect of the business operation, essential for a company that now exports more than 90% of its annual fibre production, and is associated with many niche fibre applications in markets as diverse as aerospace braids, violin strings, medical device and advanced thermoplastic composites.
